{"id":37,"date":"2016-03-20T20:00:39","date_gmt":"2016-03-21T00:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/techministries.biz\/emedlin\/?p=37"},"modified":"2016-04-06T21:29:17","modified_gmt":"2016-04-07T01:29:17","slug":"getting-away-together","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/techministries.biz\/emedlin\/2016\/03\/20\/getting-away-together\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting Away Together"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What wonderful weekend! \u00a0Finally getting away together &#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>In the past 20 years since having children we have not had time by ourselves more than one night, more than 20 miles from home. We didn&#8217;t need anything super fancy or very luxurious. We just needed time by ourselves to reconnect. \u00a0Lisa and I were finally able to spend a quiet weekend by ourselves, reconnecting.<\/p>\n<p>Why is getting away together so important for married couples?<\/p>\n<h2>Relaxation<\/h2>\n<p>We all need time to recover from the stress this life puts on us. \u00a0A quiet weekend away from home and responsibilities does wonders to remove that constant feeling of being under pressure. \u00a0No more constant feeling of I have to be working on this or fixing that.<\/p>\n<p>For days we could talk, relax or just sit quietly without the need to look at our watch, answer the phone or take care of some responsibility. \u00a0 We have a priority to make a date at least once a week. \u00a0But that is not the same as have a few days in a row where we didn&#8217;t have something else scheduled that day. \u00a0The short weekly time alone is important as well but it does not lesson the stress that life brings nearly as much as having whole days with nothing to-do!<\/p>\n<h2>Bonding<\/h2>\n<p>Our relationships, especially the marriage relationship, is strengthened with common experiences. \u00a0Spending time, just the two of us, is priceless. \u00a0You know those couples that can complete each other sentences or know what the other is thinking without a word being said. \u00a0That kind of connection is forged by those one on one bonding moments.<\/p>\n<p>Our weekend was purposely vacant of scheduled activities. \u00a0It was mostly a &#8220;fly by the seat of our pants&#8221; type of trip.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We went to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanicrestaurant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oceanic <\/a>for lunch, just because I&#8217;ve never been there before.<\/li>\n<li>We went shopping, because we wanted get something memorable (and to stock the room with junk food).<\/li>\n<li>We had to stop at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krispykreme.com\/location\/wilmington\" target=\"_blank\">Krispy Kreme <\/a>&#8212;\u00a0the <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">HOT NOW<\/span> light was\u00a0on.<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.krispykreme.com.au\/skin\/frontend\/krispykreme\/krispykreme\/images\/placeholder\/photo-30.png?resize=373%2C346&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Getting Away together to Krispy Kreme for some Hot Now\" width=\"373\" height=\"346\" \/><\/li>\n<li>We slept when we were sleepy.<\/li>\n<li>We ate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.munchiesfoodco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Munchies<\/a> when we were hungry. \u00a0 \u00a0Yes, I ate the Fat Hog.<\/li>\n<li>We took a walk\u00a0on the beach, just because it seemed like a fun thing to do at the time.<\/li>\n<li>We saw <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.londonhasfallen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">London Has<\/a><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.londonhasfallen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Fallen<\/a>, because we wanted to see it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None of these activities were scheduled, except for the movie time. \u00a0This took all the pressure off of us. \u00a0It was the most relaxing and wonderful time we&#8217;ve had in decades. \u00a0Several times since returning home we mentioned that we wish we were back.<\/p>\n<h2>Getting Away Together Again<\/h2>\n<p>We are definitely doing this again. \u00a0But we are not going to wait 20 years to schedule the next get away. \u00a0 We committed to doing this at least once, twice or maybe four times a year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What wonderful weekend! \u00a0Finally getting away together &#8230;.
